The correct way to bow is with hands
facing palms up. The right hand makes a
fist as the left hand covers the right.
The bow comes only from the waist with
eyes looking toward the person or group
being addressed.
When entering and leaving the Academy it
is an appropriate sign of respect for
each person to bow and address the room
with “Hello Sir, Hello Ma’am!” or
“Goodbye Sir, Goodbye Ma’am!”
Bow before stepping on the mat and say
“Yes I can!”
Bow at beginning and end of each
training session, sparring session, or
class.
Stand at attention when a Master Grade
(4th degree black belt and
above) enters the room.
Show appropriate respect for all ranks.
Do not allow talking to become
distracting or uncontrolled for the
safety of all the students.
Allow the Instructor to correct or
re-direct the students to prevent
distractions that may lead to injuries.
Martial arts shoes may be worn only with
Instructors’ approval. No outside shoes
on mats at any time.
Keep fingernails and toenails short to
prevent injuries. Observe good hygiene.
Do not wear jewelry to class.
Address the instructor by correct title
and their last name.
Always wear appropriate training attire
(Gi) when in the training area.
Always use restraint and never use
excessive force when sparring or
practicing techniques with other
students.
Questions should be appropriate and
respectful and should always observe the
chain of command.
