The correct way to bow is with hands facing palms up.  The right hand makes a fist as the left hand covers the right.  The bow comes only from the waist with eyes looking toward the person or group being addressed.

When entering and leaving the Academy it is an appropriate sign of respect for each person to bow and address the room with “Hello  Sir, Hello Ma’am!” or  “Goodbye Sir, Goodbye Ma’am!”

Bow before stepping on the mat and say “Yes I can!”

Bow at beginning and end of each training session, sparring session, or class.

Stand at attention when a Master Grade (4th degree black belt and above) enters the room.

Show appropriate respect for all ranks.

Do not allow talking to become distracting or uncontrolled for the safety of all the students.

Allow the Instructor to correct or re-direct the students to prevent distractions that may lead to injuries.

Martial arts shoes may be worn only with Instructors’ approval.  No outside shoes on mats at any time.

Keep fingernails and toenails short to prevent injuries.  Observe good hygiene.

Do not wear jewelry to class.

Address the instructor by correct title and their last name.

Always wear appropriate training attire (Gi) when in the training area.

Always use restraint and never use excessive force when sparring or practicing techniques with other students.

Questions should be appropriate and respectful and should always observe the chain of command.
